Borussia Dortmund sack head coach Nuri Sahin

Borussia Dortmund, a prominent Bundesliga club, have officially relieved head coach Nuri Sahin of his duties. This decision comes shortly after the team suffered a fourth consecutive loss.

Borussia Dortmund announced in a statement on Wednesday that they have chosen to terminate their contract with their head coach following their fourth loss in as many matches this year, a 2-1 defeat in the Champions League to Bologna.

"I find this decision personally disappointing, but it was unavoidable after the game in Bologna," Dortmund managing director Lars Ricken said.

There had long been speculation about this move, given Dortmund's recent decline to a 10th place spot in the German top division, a finish that was a far cry from the Champions League regulars they were expected to be.

Ricken stated that taking into account that and the fact that Dortmund have only won one of their last nine matches, the board has "lost faith that we can still achieve our sporting objectives in the present setup."

The Turkish football club named Sahin as their new head coach only last summer, replacing Edin Terzic.

Dortmund said that they will announce shortly who will be in charge of the team for their Bundesliga match against Werder Bremen on Saturday.
