California Wildfires: Statue of biblical Mary remains standing amid charred ruins

  • A family in California suffered a devastating house fire, but a statue of Mary from a biblical passage miraculously survived the blaze
  • It was in almost pristine condition, standing amidst the remnants of the charred once-homely which they had occupied for three and a half decades.
  • "It's one of the most intriguing and bizarre phenomena that only God truly comprehends," read one of the comments.

In the midst of the devastating wildfires that ravaged southern California, a striking symbol of hope and faith stood out from the ashes of a California family's home—a statue of Mother Mary.

In a viral Instagram video, the statue remained upright and nearly undamaged, standing amidst a backdrop of burning debris.

It all began when the Halpins' home, which they had occupied for 37 years, was reduced to ruins by the devastating Eaton Fire.

Peter Halpin, the family patriarch, detailed a heart-wrenching narrative during a media interview, describing the extraordinary occurrence.

"Astonishingly, everything else had been completely destroyed, yet the statue of Mary and another of Saint Joseph remained intact," he said.

However, their unshakeable devotion led them back to the site last week, despite government-imposed restrictions.

Surrounded by their six children and other loved ones, the family sang a hymn to the statue, captured in a heartfelt video which has now gone viral on Instagram.

We had no intention for this to go viral at all," Peter observed. "It was primarily a family matter, but the community's response has been unimaginable and wonderfully heartfelt.

Peter's wife, Jackie, described her reaction to discovering the statues still standing.

Her son-in-law had visited the site a day earlier and taken a photo of the Mary statue, which inspired the family to embark on a pilgrimage.

I fell to my knees," Jackie said. "I knew we had to go back to that place to thank God for the time we spent there.

The family, deeply rooted in their faith, dedicated their home to the Sacred Heart of Jesus many years ago, with Jackie being thankful for the life they created in that house.

For years, we've prioritized making people happy, and we're deeply committed to the value of welcoming others. I wanted to thank you by saying, 'We would be more than grateful if we could do it again.'

There's been one house in Malibu that managed to keep completely unscathed throughout the latest LA wildfires season with property owner Sharon Lawrence getting full credit for the home's preservation, saying 'Each brush clearance I get, I investigate it fully - if branches are hanging over the house I have them gone'.

A comparable incident unfolded when a dramatic photograph of a solitary Malibu estate retained its structure while surrounding residences were severely damaged got widespread attention on various online platforms.

The house was photographed after the Los Angeles wildfires, which have been ongoing for several days.

Details show that the $8 million (KSh 1 billion) mansion, built in 2000, belongs to David Steiner, CEO of a waste management company.
