Coast Guard Commandant terminated over border lapses, recruitment, DEI focus: official

The head of the U.S. Coast Guard has been removed over issues related to the border, recruitment problems and an "erosion of trust," a high-ranking official from DHS confirmed to Fox News.

Adm. Linda Lee Fagan has undergone termination, according to Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Benjamine Huffman.

Fagan has shown a lack of leadership skills, operational failures, and an inability to achieve the strategic goals of the United States Coast Guard.

These include failing to address security threats along the borders, poor leadership in recruitment and keeping experienced personnel, mismanaging key purchases like icebreakers and helicopters, overemphasizing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, and an "erosion of trust" due to mishandling and covering up problems related to Operation Fouled Anchor.

Fagan began serving as the 27th Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard on June 1st, 2022. As such, she was responsible for overseeing all worldwide Coast Guard operations, as well as the approximately 42,000 active-duty, 7,000 reserve and 8,700 civilian personnel, and the support of the 21,000 Coast Guard Auxiliary volunteers.
