LeBron James cheers on Ohio State at College Football Playoff championship game

He went to Mercedes-Benz Stadium to watch his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes play Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff championship game on Monday night.

Cameras from ESPN caught James in a VIP area about 45 minutes before the game. He had arrived in town the night before his team, the Los Angeles Lakers, was set to host the Washington Wizards. Later in the first half, James was shown on the stadium's big screen. He removed his Ohio State hat, which is red, to show it off to the fans and gave them a friendly fist pump as they cheered.

James remains closely connected to his home state of Ohio. He is originally from Akron and launched his NBA career with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper was also on hand to cheer for Ohio State. Two-time National League MVP Bryce Harper's wife, Kayla, attended Ohio State.

Among the Notre Dame supporters on hand were 88-year-old former coach Lou Holtz and recording artist Jon Bon Jovi, both of whom watched from their suites.

Two legendary running backs, one from Ohio State and the other from Notre Dame, were introduced on the field before the game. Archie Griffin, Ohio State's two-time Heisman Trophy winner in 1974 and 1975, walked alongside Jerome Bettis, the former Notre Dame standout and Pro Football Hall of Famer.

The first time the game was played on the day of a presidential inauguration.

Bernice King attended a pre-game service in Atlanta attended by her father's former congregation and took part in the pregame coin toss while denouncing anti-woke ideologies.
